January Monthly Book Review

Hey friends!! Happy Tuesday! Today is one of my FAVORITE days of the month because it is time for my...Monthly Book Review + Ella and I's monthly book club book release!!

Make sure to link-up HERE and use our graphic!

I cannot wait to get into it! Also, follow me on GoodReads HERE!!

For today's post, I am linking up with Shelbee!!

Becoming by Michelle Obama

This book was hands down amazing!!! I am so, so, SO glad that Ella and I decided to read this for our book club!!
Becoming is a book filled with all of Michelle Obama's life-experiences, and it dives deep into so many things. She also talks a lot about her experiences as first lady, how her husband, Barrack, worked to be president, her life growing up, and how hard she had to work throughout her life.
This book was so very inspiring, and I loved reading all about her life! This book is quite amazing, and is definitely worth the read! If you haven't read it, I think you should go and read it now!!

This Time Next Year  by Sophie Cousens
All I can say is that it was not my favorite...
The book was super hyped up and a lot of people who read it liked it. I was super excited to read it, but it just did not live up to my expectations.
Before I start complaining, which I have plenty of complaints, let me tell you what this book is about.
The book starts out with two women in the hospital giving birth super close to the New Year. One woman was perfect, the other one was not. There was also a prize for the family of the first baby born in the New Year. The perfect lady gives birth just seconds before the not as perfect woman, and therefore wins the prize. But she also names her baby the name that the other woman in the hospital with her had always dreamed of naming her own.
It sounds pretty cheesy already, also I am not doing the best job of explaining it.
Anyways, the baby that came second was named Minnie instead of Quinn and grew up thinking she was cursed, and if her name had been Quinn Cooper, none of the bad things that happen to her would have happened to her. One day, on her thirtieth birthday, she meets Quinn. He has had a seemingly perfect life, or he has from what she can tell, and hasn't had it nearly as hard as Minnie has. They end up falling in love against all odds, a typical love story, but honestly, it seemed a little less dramatic despite the weird intro.
The thing I did NOT like about the book, was that it seemed like there was no chemistry between Minnie and  Quinn. Quinn was rich stuck up, and plain rude to Minnie at times, but she still kept falling for him! It was a little aggravating to have her all upset, and then the next time she saw him, falling in love again! I also felt like the book jumped around too much. I just felt like there were gaps because of the way the book was written, and then they were recapped anyway, so why did the book seem to skip around so much?
Not a bad book, but not my favorite, if you haven't read it you aren't missing much.

Bella and the New Guy (Love on the Track, #1) by Amy Sparling
I gave this book 3 stars on GoodReads, but now looking back, it was deserving of a 2.
This book was NOT great, at all!! It was hard to get through, even though it was only less than 150 pages. It did not keep my attention, and it was VERY predictable. The romance did not seem real, or like it was there at all. It almost seemed like those two characters should not have ended up together, even though the whole book was meant for them to get together. The book was NOT well written, at all, and I would not look into reading more from this author.
I did not enjoy reading this book. I am not one of those people who can dislike books that easily, but this one was not worth the read.

Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
I did not hate this book! It was not bad, but I just really didn't feel like the book was my type.
This book is about Will and Stella. Both have cystic fibrosis and their whole lives have been dictated by it. Will has a disease that he has caught, and if he spreads it to other patients with cystic fibrosis, they will not be able to get lung transplants. Will and Bella end up falling in love. Bella gives Will a will to live, and to fight against CF. Will taught Bella not to go through the motions but to live every moment.
The author did a great job showing the world what cystic fibrosis does to people and spreading awareness, and I just loved that Stella and Will fell in love despite all of the challenges. I don't know why, but this book just wasn't my favorite. It was sweet, heartbreaking, and tough to get through sometimes, but, again, not my favorite.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi
Shatter Me is amazing!!
Juliette (the main character), has lethal powers...whoever touches her dies. No one knows how or why she has these powers. Juliette sees this power as a burden and a curse, but The Reestablishment sees it as a gift that they can use to their advantage. Juliette has spent her entire life not speaking up for herself, but when she is united with the one person she cared for in her past, she finds a new strength.
I so enjoyed reading this book!! I was, at first, a little confused as to what direction this book was going in. And I honestly didn't see where the author had to go with the information given in this book, so that is kind of what made me give it four stars, not five. The book is very tense, and you are always on your toes. The book is a little dark, but in a very entertaining to read way!

Destroy Me (Shatter Me #1.5) Tahereh Mafi
Destroy Me is a novella told from Warner's point of view. It told so much back story, that was MUCH needed!! I loved reading from Warner's point of view rather than Juliette for a change!! Great novella, probably the best one I have ever read!!

Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi
Unravel Me was very back and forth, between a lot of people, and a lot of it was shocking! I felt like at every moment, I was always surprised by what was happening.
In this sequel, Adam and Juliette have escaped Warner's grasp to join a group of rebels. Juliette will finally be able to actively fight against The Reestablishment, as she always wanted to.
At first, I loved the romance between Adam and Juliette. I was a huge fan of them as a couple, but then it went downhill. Whenever they fought, I felt like it took up way too much of everyone's time and attention. It did get a little annoying when they were fighting again. I found myself sighing a lot. Overall, GREAT book!! It was even more jaw-dropping than the first. The only thing I didn't like was that the drama between Adam and Juliette took up a little too much time.

Fracture Me (Shatter Me #2.5) by Tahereh Mafi
Fracture Me was a great novella. A super quick, and fun read. This book is told from Adam's point of view and gave me more insight on all of the Juliette and Adam drama.
This novella is worth the read and is only 60+ pages!

Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) by Tahereh Mafi
Just when I thought that this series couldn't get more interesting, boom, Ignite Me happened!! This book was kind of steamy, but not over the top. By this point in time, I was on team Warner!! Y'all, when I was reading this, I was seriously in love with Warner!! I love Juliette and Warner as a couple, they were so cute, and I liked reading about Warner and Juliette rather than Adam and Juliette.
In this book, I felt like Juliette's character developed most out of everyone else's she became more serious, and seemed to grow up more, which I liked better than the petty drama.
Great book, and another great installment to the series!!!

Restore Me (Shatter Me #4) by Tahereh Mafi
Wow!! I felt like I learned so much information in this book!!! It was definitely a page-turner!! I was so curious to find out what would happen next, and I was enjoying every second of reading it!
Great book and great installment.

Shadow Me (Shatter Me #4.5) by Tahereh Mafi
This book is a novella told by my favorite character in the series, Kenji. When I saw that this novella was told by Kenji, I was overjoyed. Once I started reading, it felt like an exact repeat of everything that happened in Restore Me but told slightly differently. I was a little aggravated because it seemed like I was rereading the ending of the previous book.
If you aren't too into the series, this novella isn't really worth it, but it is short and doesn't take too long to mark it off the list.

Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change The World, and Become a Good Ancestor by Layla F. Saad
If you are looking to do your anti-racist work, look no farther than Me and White Supremacy. This book gave me so much insight into racism, and how it is rooted in every white person, or person of privilege's life. The book explains everything in ways that make it seem so crystal clear. It also gives great examples of how white supremacy is in our lives, and the ways we are intentionally or unintentionally are racist. After the reading for each day, there is a journal questions section. This part, in my opinion, is the most important part of the book. This part is all about YOU, and how YOU have been racist in the past or the ways you have used to privilege against BIPOC. It is an important part of cutting white supremacy from your life.
Great book, and is a must-read for everyone!!

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas by Lizzie Shane
I read this book in December, but I did not finish it in time to share it on my monthly book review. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that great. Don't get me wrong, I love the dog part of it all, but the romance part wasn't there, and it got a little boring. I found myself thinking, "Fall in love already", with a sigh at the end.
Worth a read next December, but a pretty forgettable book.

Now to rank all of the books...

1. Becoming by Michelle Obama

2. Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad

3. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

4. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

We missed having a dog so much, and it was so hard for all of us. So, we started looking for dogs. We connected with the West Tennessee Border Collie Rescue, and they found a male puppy in Prattville, which is so close to us. At first, we weren't sure if he was available for adoption or even fostering. It turns out he was! On Saturday, Mom picked up him from the shelter, and when I got home from
